School Selection & Career Development for High School Students The high cost of education and a more competitive workplace have created the need for careful long-range planning. Choosing a vocation, college, university, or major area of study can be a costly investment and is too important to leave to chance. The Greenwood System was designed to provide professional guidance to families making these important decisions. Students learn about themselves, the world of work, and where they "fit in" through a self-exploration process that includes interviews, a series of assessments, and feedback sessions with a counselor. Students learn how to think about themselves and the world of work and identify where they have the greatest potential for job satisfaction. Equipped with this knowledge, students can make informed decisions about school selection and a major area of study. The Greenwood System was validated in a 2003 research study that indicated that 65.4% of randomly selected clients adhered to the program recommendation at least three years after receiving the service. Those who adhered to the recommendations were found to be significantly more committed to their careers. Additionally, 85% reported that the program met their needs and 95% would recommend the program to others. The Greenwood System develops self-awareness that helps students find a focus and gives them the confidence necessary to meet future challenges. The Process - An initial consultation with the student and family. - Evaluation of student academic records with special attention to the needs of the gifted or learning disabled student. - Computer-assisted assessments of the student's interests, aptitudes, values and personality. - Extensive interview of the student to assist in identifying strengths, interests and values. - Identification of potential colleges and universities or technical schools, areas of study, and careers that complement the student's profile. - Guidance on the college admissions process and career research. - A final summary report, that includes a comprehensive analysis of test results, interviews and recommendations. - A parent conference that establishes realistic goals for the student. The process of choosing a vocation, college or university, and a major area of study is often very stressful for today's students and families. These decisions lay the foundation for a future career path and are critical for future success. The Greenwood System takes the guesswork out of the career and school selection process. It matches the interests, values, abilities and personalities of students with institutions that can provide an academic and social environment that best meets the student's needs and goals. An early career focus frequently reduces the time spent on a degree by eliminating school transfers and changes in the area of study. The Greenwood System provides objective data about a student and generates appropriate career and continuing education options. Armed with this information the student and family are able to make wise decisions about institutions of higher education that offer relevant majors and course work. We assist domestic and international families, including US families living overseas, who need assistance on understanding the US educational system and its various options. Having visited numerous colleges, universities and technical schools and placing hundreds of students since 1987, we have personal knowledge, resources and information about schools including their campus cultures and academic strengths. |
